Jonathan Hilton

Introduction to Jonathan Hilton

Jonathan Hilton first encountered the work of Rudolf Steiner in 1974 when he was invited to read Steiner’s lecture cycle on the Gospel of John with a friend who was already studying Steiner’s works. These lectures directly addressed many of his core life questions about the true nature of the Christ. This early encounter with Steiner’s work deeply impacted him, leading to a lifelong exploration of spiritual science.

Meeting Willi Sucher

In 1977, Jonathan’s Steiner study group in New York City joined with a group from Los Angeles for a five-day workshop at Willi Sucher’s home in Meadow Vista, California. This meeting with Willi and his work awakened in Jonathan a profound sense of the human being’s relationship to the cosmos and the connection between the cosmic Christ and the starry world.

Though he had no prior interest in astrology, Jonathan recognized in the "new star wisdom" — developed by Willi Sucher and Dr. Elisabeth Vreede out of anthroposophy — something of great significance. He was inspired by this and wrote to Willi Sucher requesting further guidance and study.

Intensive Study and Mentorship

In 1978, Jonathan traveled to Meadow Vista to live in Willi’s home and study intensively under his mentorship. This marked the beginning of a close relationship with Willi Sucher that continued until Willi’s passing in 1985. During this time, Jonathan maintained ongoing correspondence and study not only with Willi but also with Hazel Straker in Wales, one of Willi’s longtime colleagues.

Building on the Foundations

Jonathan has carried forward the lineage of Willi Sucher’s research, which is rooted in the work of Rudolf Steiner and Dr. Elisabeth Vreede. He has worked to make this knowledge accessible to those seeking a new, spiritually grounded approach to the stars. In addition to his personal studies, Jonathan has contributed to the field in various ways over the years.

Leadership in the Astrosophy Community

From 1992 to 2018, Jonathan served on the Board of the Astrosophy Research Center, which was dedicated to publishing the works of Willi Sucher. The Center is no longer in existence since the death of Darlys Turner in 2024, who guided the work of the Center since its inception just prior to Willi’s death in 1985.  He has also served as President of the New York City Branch of the Anthroposophical Society and has taught at Sunbridge College, a Waldorf teacher training center in Spring Valley, NY.

Expanding His Work and Outreach

Over the years, Jonathan has shared the teachings of astrosophy both in the USA and internationally including China, Thailand, Europe and South America. After retiring from his full-time career as Executive Director of a New York non-profit providing therapeutic arts programs for trauma survivors, he was able to devote himself more fully to astrosophy. During this time, Jonathan built a website (astrosophy.com), wrote articles, created an online course, and published his book, Speaking to the Stars (2023).
